AUDITIONS

Casting 16-20 actors aged 17 (with parental consent) or older; must be comfortable with strongly suggestive content and sensitive topics/language.

Actors under age 17 as of May 9, 2024 will not be considered for casting.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

ROGER DAVIS: 20-25. A struggling musician and former drug addict, he is reminiscent of Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cobain. Battles to cope with being HIV-positive and the death of his ex-girlfriend. Guitar skills are desired, but are not required. Pop/rock tenor.

MIMI MARQUEZ: 19. Dancer at the Cat Scratch Club and Roger and Mark’s neighbor. Savvy and independent, but struggles with addiction, which has resulted in her contraction of HIV. Pop/rock belt.

MARK COHEN: 20-25. Underground filmmaker and video artist who narrates the show as he films the lives of his friends. He has turned his back on his affluent upbringing and is deep in his own soul-searching. Pop tenor.

MAUREEN JOHNSON: 20-25. A bisexual performance artist. Funny and wild, she fights for what she believes in and is always the life of the party as long as she is the center of attention. Pop/rock belt.

JOANNE JEFFERSON: 25-30. An Ivy league educated public interest lawyer with wry humor and sardonic wit. Headstrong, smart, and purposeful in all her decisions but struggles with her jealousy of her flirtatious girlfriend, Maureen. Pop/rock belt.

TOM COLLINS: 25-30. Philosopher, teacher, anarchist, AIDS activist. A computer genius and liberal professor, he is a nurturer with a smooth and relaxed disposition. Gospel baritone.

ANGEL DUMOTT SCHUNARD: 20-25. A young street drummer and a drag queen with an incredible gift of dance and magnetic personality. Warm, loveable, and nurturing, Angel lives life to the fullest. High pop tenor with falsetto.

BENJAMIN COFFIN III: 20-30. Former roommates with Mark, Roger, and Collins, he married into a rich family and is now the landlord of the building. Roger and Mark consider him a yuppie sell-out. Pop tenor.

ENSEMBLE: 20s-30s. Strong pop/rock singers to play citizens of Alphabet City, the parents of Mark, Roger, Mimi and Joanne, Support Group attendees, and others. May be assigned to understudy principal roles.


PREPARATION

Please prepare 32-bars from the contemporary musical theatre or pop/rock genres. Bring sheet music in the correct key or an instrumental only track. You may accompany yourself if desired.
No a cappella auditions please.
Dress to learn a short dance combination taught by the choreographer.

1st Rehearsal: May 13, 2024

1st Performance: July 19, 2024

Closing: July 27, 2024

VIDEO AUDITIONS

If you cannot make auditions and wish to submit a video audition, please submit to MysticVP@aol.com no later than Monday, May 6th at 5:00 p.m. (late submissions will not be considered).
Please provide video of yourself singing 32-bars from the contemporary musical theatre or pop/rock genres that show personality and strong acting choices.
Use accompaniment; no a capella auditions, please.
If you are not available for callbacks, we may request a dance reel and additional scenes/songs to record and send in by 5:00 p.m. on May 9th.
